    Privet (species unknown) is a native of Europe, North Africa, and Asia and is a member of the Olive family. There are several species which are difficult to identify and include common privet (Ligustrum vulgare), Chinese privet (Ligustrum sinense), and Japanese privet (Ligustrum japonicum).

    Privet can easily escape cultivation by movement of seeds which are eaten and transported by wildlife, mostly birds, and spreads to adjacent areas and forms dense mono cultural tickets.

    These deciduous or half-evergreen plants hold hold its leaves into winter, but drop them before spring. It has small white flowers which bloom in June and July. Privet has black, berry like fruit which are borne in terminal clusters The fruit cluster ripen during September and October and last in to the winter.
