JOLLY BOYS PLEDGE $50,000
FOR STATE PARK IN AMHERST
Buffalo News, January 19, 1999
The Jolly Boys, a local fund-raising group that sponsors Amherst's annual Old Home Days celebration, has pledged $10,000 a year for the next five years for a new state park in Amherst.
Amherst Supervisor Susan J. Grelick said a check presentation will take place at tonight's Amherst Town Board meeting.
The town and state have agreed to buy land from the Sisters of St. Francis with the plan to create a park off Mill Street, just north of Williamsville. Lawyers are still working out the purchase details.
"The Jolly Boys have made it possible for us to think more creatively about what we can do to enhance our newest park," Ms. Grelick said.
The supervisor said the money would be deposited in an account dedicated to the park while a town advisory committee considers how to spend the money.
