Photos of Amherst State Park - 2010
Beaver at Work
It is thought a lone beaver came into the park in fall looking to build a winter home. Beaver were a historic part of the local ecology and in some areas are making a return. Below are five of pictures taken on January 21, 2010 showing damage to trees a beaver. Still, it is a wonderful learning experience to view the natural work of the beaver.
Also photographed on this day are pictures showing views of Ellicott creek and ice formations along the creek banks.
A second series of pictures taken on January 26, 2010 show flooding in the park. The movie at the left shows Ellicott Creek flooding at the bottom of the slope and the road being washed out. This road was repaired last year after spring flooding.
